Alright, I am between jobs at the moment and on for a reason. I have been focusing on building EB Ranch as a business. Primarily on the san clemente island goats and their milk being used in EB Ranch's goat milk soap. I plan on finishing out the Winter Farmer's Market until the end of April, then spending every Saturday at the Summer Farmer's Market, all in Menomonie WI.
All of this prep has also including trying to taking on a few more retail locations. Right now I sell at the Menomonie Market Food Co-op and the Raw Deal. Though I have very good potential leads at a few cooperative grocery stores in Minneapolis and one art store in Stockholm, WI. I'll keep everyone posted if these stores do end up carrying EB Ranch goat milk soap! And a quick mention, I will be at the MMFC this Saturday the 25th from 11-2pm for their CSA Fair! Come on out and meet so local farmers and sign up for their shares they offer! I think these things will keep my busy enough for the summer!
There are also plans of having an on the farm market maybe once a month. This will enable folks to come out and see what we are doing on EB Ranch and possibly buy some farm goodies, like mushrooms and fresh herbs and maybe even fall decorations! And I will keep this short, be Bob and I are officially hooked up and on solar. I won't go into details but stay tuned for that fun story. I do hope Bob will be able to give solar tours as well, and help people with questions and help them take those first steps into solar.
There is a multitude of other schemes and plans happening right now. A big one, and I'm only on the first steps, but I hope to be working with the NRCS. I had my first quick meeting to get some ideas forming. I hope to have really nice goat pastures planted, put in new perimeter fencing/electric net fencing to ensure pasture rotation. Work on our sap collection and maybe zone the woods as AG. But just working with different folks to learn the best methods of wood and pasture land conservation while still benefiting from well tended pastures. Now I have a list of numbers I need to crunch, and the possibility of bringing in more goats to help manage the pasture area better! I'm pretty excited!
Right now I can't think of much more even though I know there is a lot more! The usual farm stuff is happening, seeds are being started, Minerva had twin kids, one boy and one girl and both are just fine and dandy. I have been milking the extra from her right now and made my first batch of chevre cheese! I haven't made cheese in almost two years, yikes! There has also been a ton of organizing, purging and cleaning. My brain feels much more organized and I plan on brewing beer again really soon. I will never get bored on EB Ranch, I just hope to make it profitable enough one day to be able to work from home. Your support helps this place, so thank you!
At the end of it all, I really need to give thanks to some key friends through all of this. I have had unconditional support, fantastic feedback and being shown paths I would have never seen before. Thank you Khaiti at LTD Farm, Lauren and Caleb at Blue Ox Organics, and Bob DK-my lovely partner in life!
I hope to see you all over this summer, I'll be at my farmer's market booth every Saturday. You an also purchase individual bars of soap along with goat milk soap shares on my store page!
As always, enjoy the farm pictures and thank you for your support!
