Hello to all you lovely folks out there!
In the midst of the busy summer season some extra fun events have occurred and been decided upon. First off, a few weeks back I ran a gofundme account to purchase one of two san clemente island goats. The gofundme was a HUGE success, it took less than 2 days for people to donate the money needed. With that, I ended up purchasing a second doe with the help of my lovely partner Bob. Lastly I got the intersex goat, Arcturia as a companion with these two does. Arcturia was the goat I intended to get in the first place. Arcturia needed a "forever home" and I need more goat pressure on my pastures. Then I was informed that the woman, Michelle, had two does that someone no longer wanted and asked me if I wanted to purchase them. It was a unique opportunity as she lives less than 2 hours away. Everyone else with SCI goats lives at least 8 hours away if not much much more. After all is said and done, I have three new SCI goats on EB Ranch! Their names are Siobahn, pronounced Shi-vawhn, Silva, and Arcturia. These are all named by people who helped donate toward their cause. A special thanks to Jay for helping with the fuel costs to pick up Arcturia. With new goats and bloodlines I can start confidently breeding them and making this breed more accessible to people in the area. Right now I am the only person in Wisconsin that owns and breeds these goats. I hope to get people interested in them and possibly raise their own in the future. Hopefully I will have two does bred for November babies with the rest to hopefully be bred for late March babies. If you are interested in purchasing some SCI goats, stay in touch and I'll let you know what may be available in the future.
The second big piece of news is that I'm getting organized to run a kickstarter in the month of November. It will help to go toward the costs of bulk soap making supplies, mainly coconut and olive oil, as well as essential oils and some more soap molds. Getting these bulk materials will help me create a big back stock of soap. This in turn will help me get accounts at more retail stores, mainly cooperative grocery stores in Minneapolis. I will be able to keep up with demand and be dependable as a business. In return people will of course be getting lovely goat milk soap. I feel that if the kickstarter works, I will be able to get the soaps mailed out in time for the holiday season or a bit after. You not only could be supporting a great business, but also getting holiday shopping out of the way! WOW! In addition to this I am starting to contact newspapers and other publications to get articles and interviews up and running. This should help boost awareness to make this kickstarter a success.
Today I have a friend coming over to help make some farm videos. I hope these videos will encompass the farm and all that happens here. I got a bit overwhelmed trying to sum everything up into probably 10 minutes or less worth of videos. It made me realize all that happens here as well as the diversity of the farm! We have solar, 5 different species of animal(not including cats and dogs!) beautiful land and woods we want to keep healthy, a couple large gardens and an orchard with apples, pears, and grapes, making soap, going to farmers' markets, plus working a part time job outside of all this. It's really so much fun, I wouldn't have it any other way. To have this kickstarter be a success would be a huge step in the direction of being able to work from home.
So thank you all in advance, let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks for the support!
