Being able to see a plan in the past come to fruition is a great reward. Especially when farming, there are so many factors that can oppose your well made plan. This time, my grand scheme worked! That is, to have fencing and housing ready for the goats and miscellaneous poultry set up in advance to potentially have them enclosed in the gardens.
Early this spring I made plans to put the critters in our various gardens after we where done getting produce out of them. I purposely planted corn, beans, early cabbage, and potatoes in the garden in front of the goat shed. I had the intentions of moving the fencing around to let the goats in there and still have access to their shelter. And it worked!
I also had intentions of letting my broiler chickens have the garden closer to the house. I can easily move their chicken tractors inside any garden. So now I have these crazy little white chub balls running around and gorging themselves on old squash, tomatoes, among all the weeds. This also worked like a charm! The chickens are small enough to not reach the produce we are still harvesting, like the kale, brussels sprouts, tomatillos, and tomatoes higher up on the vine as well as a few herbs.
It feels good to put time and effort behind making these happen. Now the animals will eat down the vegetation in the gardens to help clear them up as well as putting fertilizer down right where we need it for next year's planting. Plus the animals, especially the broiler chickens can get nice and chubby!
My BIG PLAN that is happening right now is the EB RANCH SAN CLEMENTE GOAT MILK SOAP EXPANSION!
I launched this campaign on October 1st and it ends on November 4th. I have spent the last few months organizing and creating all the aspects needed to make this as successful as it could be. Many friends have helped out, and I will list their names below. With all my ducks in a row, I am asking you to be a backer for this campaign. The rewards are of course goat milk soap, but also the chance to name a baby goat in 2018 and to help me pick out a new soap scent and have your name on that label for the next year. With your help I can get these bars of soap into your hands as well as so many others. You of course can see all the details by visiting the kickstarter.
Thank you for the support, and I want to thank these people specifically.
There are so many more, and I will include the backers for this campaign over time. I'm excited, nervous, been drinking WAY too much coffee for the last few months..., busy, hopeful, and most of all thankful.
Enjoy the fall photos, it's been unseasonably warm and wet this year!
